Corry Weller gained valuable points in her chase for a repeat championship in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series by scoring her fourth victory of the season in Turbo UTV at Wild West Motorsports Park in Sparks, Nev. Weller, who drives a DragonFire Racing / Full Throttle Batteries Can-Am Maverick X3 X rs Turbo R side-by-side vehicle prepped by Weller Racing, dominated Round 5. The two-round event was held at the closed-course facility in suburban Reno. Heavy rain on Friday worked to Weller’s advantage as she got out front early and won the event. “Being in front was a huge advantage in the mud and I didn’t want to give it up,” said Weller. “Having to wipe mud off the tear-offs and dealing with roost is a big disadvantage, so that was the impetus to keep me up front.” On Saturday, she posted the fastest time in qualifying, but started sixth due to the invert. She fought through the traffic and crash-fest to score a finish and extend her points lead. “It’s getting down to the end of the season and everyone wants wins,” explained Weller. “I just wanted to keep my points lead and try to even pad it a little bit. It was a rough race, we suffered some damage which slowed us down, but stuff like this happens in off-road racing so we’ll focus on going forward, get ready for Glen Helen, and try to get this championship.” Weller was again impressed with the Can-Am race vehicle's combination of excellent power and handling. She needed both on the tough and lengthy circuit. “I absolutely love the [Can-Am] X3,” said Weller. “It’s a beast. It powers up the hills. It powers through the corners. It’s a tough car and it’s really fun to drive. Our team really nailed the setup out here, too.” Corry Weller will defend her points leads during the next doubleheader LOORRS weekend, October 5-6, at Glen Helen Raceway in Devore, Calif.
