For the second event in a row, the Lucas Oil Midwest Short Course League saw a pair of weekend sweeps in its Pro UTV classes.
For the second event in a row, the winning drivers were also Kyle Chaney and CJ Greaves.
Both are now a perfect four for four on the 2019 season after sweeping Friday and Saturday’s ERX Off-Road National at ERX Motor Park in Elk River, Minnesota. The second of four events this year, following last month’s Forest County Potawatomi Brush Run at Crandon International Raceway, saw over 50 Pro class entries, and nearly 90 UTV entries overall.
Chaney extended his Pro Mod points lead by winning over defending champion Rodney VanEperen and Thomas Reihner on Friday, and Jimmy Henderson and VanEperen on Saturday. His championship advantage is now up to a healthy 51 points over VanEperen, with Henderson a further 12 points back in third.
Greaves, who also took the first Pro 4 victory of the weekend, beat cousin Kyle Greaves and Ryan Mulder to the line on Friday, and Zac Zakowski and Kyle Greaves on Saturday. That led to a Greaves family affair on top of the class points, as CJ leads Kyle by 33 points atop the championship standings. Jeremy Houle, who finished second in both Crandon races, completes the top three.
Sportsman Stock saw its third different winner in three races on Friday, as Nathan Slatinsky bested Jack Letourneau and Chris Ankney in the first race of the weekend. But it was Johnny Holtger who became the first repeat winner of the season on Saturday, holding off Dylan Marquardt and Dexter Karban for the checkered flag. But it’s Owen VanEperen who holds the points lead over Holtger by 23, following finishes of fifth and fourth at ERX.
The Lucas Oil Midwest Short Course League season continues on August 9-11 with a tripleheader event from Bark River International Raceway. VanEperen and Chaney swept last year’s Pro Mod races, while Kenny Masch and CJ Greaves split the two Pro Stock rounds and current Pro Stock rookies Kyle Greaves and Gabe Johnson were last year’s Sportsman Stock winners.
