The 2018 Dirt Series season is now complete
I am so stoked that we went out with a bang! Due to the rain on Friday night and Saturday morning, the Dirt Series cancelled the scheduled practice on Saturday. We finished prepping my car and loaded up to head to Fox Raceway in Pala, CA on Sunday morning. When we got there, races were delayed due to the poor track conditions from all of the rain the day before. They finally let us go out for a few practice laps and to test the track to make sure it was race ready. I made four laps and everything was feeling pretty good. After the driver’s meeting, my class was race number one in the line-up for the day. I headed back to my pit quickly and got my car to the start line.
The green flag flew and we took off!
The mud at the start slowed all of us down, but I kept on it and came in third off of the line. I was able to make a quick pass moving into the second place spot. It was time to chase down first! I stayed on it, and as we made our way through lapped traffic, I was determined to get out in front. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make the pass and finished the first moto in 2nd place. After we raced through the line-up, it was our turn to line-up for moto 2.
We lined-up and took off again. I got the hole shot this time and as we rounded turn one, the moto 1 first place finisher and I were neck-in-neck. We headed out onto the course, and as we went over the first jump, he was able to pull ahead of me. I stayed on his bumper and was determined again to make the pass. I tried several times during the first 5 laps, but couldn’t get it done. Going into the 6th and final lap, I was able to get by him and took off! At the end of the race, I crossed the finish line in 1st place! I took home the 1st place overall spot for the day and the 2018 Dirt Series Championship title in the UTV Production 1000 class!
