Get a room in Armagosa. We did 2 years ago. You want to get there before dark or the crypt keeper will have to let you in. Its a casino / hotel that closes late at night. Or theres the Shady Lady Ranch down the road:D

Kevin, try Beatty first, it is where the V2R start is. Probly sold out by now tho.

the hotel in Armagossa is 20 miles out of the way, so 20 miles waisted thursday night, and 20 miles waisted friday morn.

or try a hotel on or near the hwy 95 in north las vegas like the santa fe station or something like that. it will be a longer drive in the morning but you will get to bed earlier thursday night and less waisted miles.

3. What were your biggest challenges last time
-Don't try and win the race in the first 50 miles.
-There are some rough sections, but with no pre-running and only one race per year...it is very smooth compared to Baja or the Mint...but SILTY!.
-Don't overdrive your visibility or bad things can happen.
-The race starts very early so don't stay in Vegas, get north. IMO a tent would be better than a 2:30 am alarm.
-Have fun and buy Joey lots of cold beer or Fireball if it is after midnight. Muuuaaaaahahaha :D

don't be afraid to spend a little extra time in the pits, its a long race, and you cant win if you don't finish.

Ya we have talked alot about taking care of the car and not pushing it to hard.... Like u guys have said its a very long race and just finishing is the key... Taking care of the care will be faster then hauling the ass and fixing shit at every pit or getting a DNF

In the mountains west of Las Vegas
Ok i know this will be a little long winded but bear with me. Some of the top teams know most of this but this is for the less experienced teams.

We have raced V2R four times. Two with a UTV and two with a 7200 truck.

Vegas 2 Reno is very challenging but worth every bit of it.

Vehicle setup
Assuming your UTV is set up properly for any BITD race other than length V2R poses challenges with logistics and as some teams learned at the Baja 500 vapor lock is a huge concern especially for V2R due to high heat and high elevation. A critical examination of your entire fuel system in terms of heat and heat soak will give you a direction for prevention. In addition to routing there are fuel line insulators available. We used one that was designed by NASA, it was expensive but effective. We also used an inline fuel cooler from Barry Grant. If your fuel system provides pressure to the engine and terminates there, that will be a likely spot for vapor lock. If your fuel system provides pressure to the engine and then returns the unused fuel back to the tank then you end up with hot fuel returning to the tank and heating it up until the entire system is subject to vapor lock. Remember Vapor lock is caused by temperature and pressure. Low atmospheric pressure (altitude) will cause fuel to boil at a lower temp.
A pit strategy that can also be effective is to fuel early in the hottest part of the day with nice cool fuel even if you don't need it. I have seen TT teams pitting at pit 1 just to pour in some iced down fuel.

Try to bring all your race gas with you from a station you trust, the small stations up in northern Nevada do not sell enough to keep it fresh.

Try to avoid getting fuel for your chase trucks in Beatty, there are only a couple of stations and the lines can get real long. There is a Chevron on the north side of Tonopah that is pretty good.

Chase trucks keep yourself fueled - the farther north you get the scarcer fuel gets. We always carried an extra 10 gal of diesel in each truck.

Chase crews - obey small town speed limits - they know you're coming and its bad enough to get the ticket but missing a pit is even worse. And dont forget to keep yourselves hydrated and fed.

Racers - From our team Doc - keep yourself hydrated at all times - remember when you feel thirsty it is already to late. We also required protein gel packs at every pit - I know they suck -just do it.
'
Since you guys get to start early you don't have the concern with pit closing times like we did. But you have another concern even more important and that is getting caught by the gofasters coming up. Most if not all will get caught so use your mirrors and radios and pit crews to keep track of when they are coming and remember if one goes by there can be more right behind so be absolutely sure when you pull back out.

Pitting will require at least two trucks that will leapfrog and in the beginning it will be easy but the farther you get the harder it gets. There will come a point when you will not be able to cover all of them. If you can work with another team or get some help to cover rawhide then the others are almost doable.

So do your homework and have fun. Everyone from racers to chasers will never forget it. Be sure to have a cold one in Dayton for everyone.

Wish we out there racing with you guys.

You better get to work getting yourself a race #.... and no it cant be #1 haha!!
Dude, love your humor!! I love a good laugh. Always. Even at our expense.

We don't plan on kicking any asses in V2R. To finish a race w/out mechanical issues is our goal. We'll leave the #1 stuff to the Murray's, Lambert's, or Sappington's for that matter (for this race). We do however fully intend to take home the goods at this years Baja 1000.

I'll extend the challenge we put forth on Race Dez here:

To willing participants of this years Baja 1000, we are looking for as many pro utv entrants as we can find to put up $1,000.00 for a "winner takes all" bet to win the 1000.

To sweeten the pot, how about an extra $100 bucks for every hour the second place finisher comes in after the winner (assuming the 2nd place guy participated in the initial $1,000.00 bet)? We offer it only for the 1000 'cause our ute is brand new, and we are as green as Eddie Arnold! We'll be happy to offer the same at ANY race next season, just give us a chance to iron out the bugs in our Maverick this season.

This offer stands to all who are willing, and exemplifies only our confidence in the Can-am Maverick, and its "badass" chassis!!! (wish we had better luck perfecting the packaging of components!) It skips over the whoops pretty damned fast, so takers beware!

By the way. Got our asses handed to us again at the Rosarito race last weekend. Went from 1st overall on lap 2, to worst overall by the end of the race!! Ha! Ha! to us again!!! If anyone cares to hear the details of our latest episode, please ask. We all can learn from a racer's woes.

I said this on Race Dez, and I'll repeat it here. MP of the Jagged clan is a well spoken diplomat of our cause. Bless him for the balance that he brings. While J and Big J of Cognito make me smile every time they post!! Love to share a slushy after the V2R if you'll have me. Believe me, I'm not the arrogant bastard I come across as. I'm always hiding in the background at the races. I've already spread enough dung to last out this season!!

By the way Justin, our no. is #1905. Can't wait to see you all there.
