This is awesome news! I will totally go down & watch and who knows maybe even volunteer to help at a race or two.

Several years ago when MDR was alive in Plaster City, not only did I help them behind the scenes with the drawing partys, brings some sponsors to thecsreies and I promoted the 5/1600 Shootout, but a few times I got a group of friends and we would volunteer to man a checkpoint. The night races were awesome to do.

This is going to be a lot of fun. Cheap entry fee's, easy local to get to and a good family friendly environment. And for those of us that want to, we can race a dirt bike or ATV (pre running) ;) as well as the SXS.

If D-37 could do this you would have some epic racing.
Rob,

I spoke with Roger Hurd (Romic Mfg. and D-37 board member) 2 years ago about this. He said D-37 was considering it. I have no idea what happened after that. I would like to see it because it's a hell of a lot closer for me. Traveling and fuel costs are killing me. I basically didn't do anything last year because of it. It's better now, but I'm betting it goes back up real soon.

D-37 is a great group and I think this could be a good competitive venue between the groups too. An annual GP to determine the UTV crown would be great.

Maybe I'll post on their forum and see what happened.

And here was their response:

"AMA District 37 Dan, At this point in time it's not something that is on our venue but certainly something we should discuss"

So it's not dead and there's still interest. :)

D37 is a great place to race, I did the Nationals up there for a couple of years. They have some good stuff but it is a bit rocky and tends to tear your stuff up a little bit. But it's not like desert racing is easy on equipment.

A race to crown the the best would be awesome. But not a GP our series is strictly desert. But I like your thinking.

Wayne I have a question? I was talking to some this morning about this new UTV class as part of D38. It was mentioned that 1 class is a pure stock class. My question was will this pure stock class be allowed to run a stock UTV cage? Or will thier be some requirements to have a fully welded cage that only has bolt on connections where the cage mounts to the chassis?

I ask as this as I'm not a big supporter of stock cages and as much as I'm excited to here a new form of grass roots affordable car racing is coming back to Plaster City, I also know how the BLM permit and insurance goes for racing out there. I would hate to see someone with a stock cage crash, get hurt, but also possibly hurt the reputation of D38 and the potential loss of more racing in Plaster City.

I'm all for some sort of stock class, but hope things like properly welded cages, doors with a positive locking mechinism, window nets or arm restraints & 5 point harnesses will be required. Yes these items will add to the cost to race, but these items are a 1 time buy and even with grass roots low cost racing we still need to remember safety is #1. And we can afford an accident that could jeopardize racing in Plaster City.

I bet more of these stock class guys will have more money wrapped up in shocks & springs then what it would cost to get a .095 welded cage for there cars. I would even be willing to make some calls to some UTV cage fab shops to see if they would offer some sort of "Racer" discount to D38 members that are going to race the 2015 season. I know both CageWerx & Toys for Big Boys sell knock down "weld yourself" kits that are good quality for very reasonable prices. I think CageWerx was selling a kit for around $700. Then I get my friend at Powder1 to hook up D38 racers with a deal on some powder coating and your done!

Let me know, we can make this happen and make racing safer for all including D38 who have the most to lose.

Honestly I doubt that D-37 will move in this direction, it is pretty stale and set in its ways, SoCal tried to run a UTV race at its GP at "The Ranch" got about a dozen cars but the "Big 6" group wasnt thrilled about it. SoCal just brought back the Adelanto GP and would of been a good UTV course, but Im not optimistic for it to happen.
I sent the info up to D-37 Board members also.
Both Spangler and Johnson Valley have some great un-tapped UTV routes.
