Hello all,
I would like to share the information that I've found with everyone and hopefully get some feedback from desert racers, I really don't care about getting a good all around tire - just something that won't bash my rzr too bad and will last thru the rocks. Please give me and advise that you can, this information is not available from what I can find!!
I am currently running 30 inch Mongrels on 14 inch STI HD beadlocks, the tires weigh 33lbs and the rims weigh about 17lbs. Total 50lbs a rim and tire.
I would like to change to a 15 inch rim so I could get a LT tire from Discount Tire with Certs - trying to save money on tire replacements since I am desert racing now - and not wealthy. Tire shops will not put tire Certs on the Mongrels because they are considered a ATV/UTV tire, I tried. After one 48 miles race my rear tires are looking pretty worn and I was constantly worrying about getting a flat on rocks. I feel like I can be a lot faster if the LT tires can hold up to the abuse.
I need a beadlock and there are not a lot of options for true beadlocks for these RZRs, I think I'm going to go with a Sedona Raceline Mamba beadlock 15/7 for about $147 a rim and weigh about 15lbs, other options would be a Method Beadlock 15/7 for $217 a rim (don't know weight) and MSA M21 beadlock 15/7 for $200 a rim weigh 15lbs. This is what my research has found, I'm putting the Mongrel information on this as a base, everyone seems to be running them if they are not then they are running the Km2 but they are so super heavy. One of the XP1K videos had the Falkens but those are heavy too. Why aren't more racers running the BFG AT?
Stock 2014 Polaris Rzr Xp1000
Front - 37.4lbs
Rear - 43.9lbs
Tires: (best price I could find) - 30/9.50r15
Mongrel - $158/tire -34lbs
BFG AT - $128/tire -36.95lbs
BFG KM2 -$199/tire -41.8lbs
Falken Wild Peak -$110/tire -39lbs
ITP Ultracross type R - 30/10r14 $180/tire - 36.25/tire
Beadlock Rims 15/7:
Sedona Raceline - $147/rim -15lbs
Method 401 - $217/rim -?????lbs
MSA M21 - $200/rim - 15lbs
So from this I think I'm going to go with the Sedona Raceline for a light beadlock that's affordable and easily available if I broke one, and the BFG AT because it's pretty light, very available and I can get tire Certs for them. I have about two weeks before I pull the trigger on rims and tires because I have to sell my current set up and do some other race prep. Does anyone have experience desert racing this tire? How does it do thru rocks?
