It's not uncommon for smaller performance engines to burn oil. I have a 2013 XP900 with a brand new engine from Rev6 and it burned a quart of oil in the first 20 hours. Not a problem, just keep it topped off and change it regularly.
I rebuilt the engine, I found case sealer inside the oil passage but not blocked, but restricted. The cranks bearings were good but the rod bearings were Hammered out of the large end of both rods. Previous owner installed K&N filters directly to the throttle body, the cylinders were full of silt that made it past the filters and I believe put so much strain on the rods that they failed. I rebuilt it with new cylinder, crank, rods and pistons, and a new Dry-sump Oil pump. RE-shimmed the valves and used three stage Uni-fliters in the stock airbox and she is running perfect. I also broke it in with conventional motor oil for the initial breaking for 5 hours and then switched to synthetic and she doesn't use a drop of oil and runs good.
