WARD MOTORSPORTS WORCS ROUND 1 RACE REPORT

I was really looking forward to this weekend because this race was close to home for me, just a 45 minute drive from Bakersfield. I made it out to the track for practice on Friday and on the first lap my car just died halfway through. I was very frustrated given that I just rebuilt the engine right before this race due to an accident in the Laughlin SNORE race.
After getting home and investigating I found that the engine had dropped a valve and destroyed the head and a piston. Luckily after talking with Brian at Tower Works Fab, he said he had all the parts I needed and even offered to drive the parts down to my house from LA (2 hour drive). Sure enough, he showed up with the parts (head, cylinder, pistons) at 5 A.M. Saturday morning on his way through town. I spent the next several hours rebuilding the engine with the help of Chad from Madhouse Motorsports (Bakersfield), my dad, and repeated conference calls to Brian. I finally showed up at the track just in the knick of time to jump in the car and head to the starting line. The race went really well considering the circumstances, and after nearly getting caught up in Cory’s spectacular crash, I ended up second to the Holz Commander.

I would like to thank Brian, once again, from Tower Works Fab , Chad from Madhouse Motorsports, and Scott at XMF suspension for the best suspension out there.

Up next for the Ward Motorsports team is the SNORE race in Primm and then WORCS round #2.

Check out some footage from my Gopro, and also see Cory's crash! (Hope he is ok!)

Thanks for the video. I wasn't sure if I went end over end or barrel rolled. I think it was 4 times. The violent BITD Parker 250 crash had cracked the lower ball joint mount on the front knuckle and I didn't see it during my inspection. When I landed, it let go and then I was just along for the ride. All my safety gear worked, no injuries a few sessions at Massage Envy can't fix! Just another day at the office for me. (a crapy one of course):D
I sure I have the record for the most tumbles in a Commander. There was a camera man at the top of the jump, he said he got the whole crash, can't wait to see it. I will see you at the next WORCS race in Primm, I'll have some sweet suspension and a whole lot more power for that one, maybe even some new aluminum and paint too :)

Cory and Thomas, First off, great to have you guys involved with WORCS, Hope you had a good time. I raced quads with them about 10 years ago, then the last couple with my RZR..

Sorry about your terrible luck Cory but great to hear you are IN for round 2.

Nice run Thomas and thanks for posting the race report. I think some of the guys that had such a good time at Saboba should look into WORCS, you dont have to wait a year for a fun GP type race.. of course WORCS doesnt have the big purse, but entries are very affordable.

Pics: ATVriders always has some loaded on there homepage after a couple days. Click on TAFT WORCS then you will see the menu

And: VASTAction photos was at all the rounds last year. Im not positive about this year yet.. google them. great site.

Hey whistledick, if you didn't see it cracked before the race, how the hell do you know it was cracked from the last accident and it didn't crack just in this race?!?

Congrats to the finishers! Nice little battle with the Can Am and Polaris off the line. From the video the track looked like lots of fun. Might have to see if we could make it out to the next race to check it out. Cory, looks like the ball joint did not make it as you expected. I know you were concerned about it prior from the Parker race and thought you would be able to make it through this shorter Taft race. Good thing you had already ordered the new one, of course it comes in after it already broke (that's usually the way it works). Now at least you will be ready for SS. It sucks to see name calling over misfortune. I know you go out of your way to help many in this industry and promote its growth! Its appreciated. At least your cage is proving it holds up!!!:D

I just read the report on ATV riders and they said he followed to close on first lap and packed radiatior with dirt/mud.. over heated.. pulled in and cleaned it ??.. Then came back on track.
Kiger landed hard on the gas and broke a rear axle.

if you go to ATVriders.com the Yokely race report there is an awesome pic of them 2 and Holz in the first corner.. Holz's Can am looks killer!
