UTVUnderground and Horsepower Adventures announced today, that they have teamed up to bring you an exciting new, approachable off-road event series in Baja, Mexico, “The Legends Rally”. The events are designed to let participants explore the stunning beauty of Baja, while enjoying gourmet food and drink prepared by local chefs and craft spirit experts. The events will be led by off-road legends including Larry Ragland, Walker Evans, Ivan Stewart and Larry Roeseler who will share their incredible experiences in off-road racing with participants.

Each of the four planned UTV rally events per year will feature a unique route and offer a truly authentic culinary off-road experience and scenery that can only be found in Baja. Participants will stay at the famed Horsepower Ranch, nestled in a quiet valley outside of Ensenada, and experience a full day of riding that includes a gourmet outdoor lunch in a private location, prepared by local chefs.

“Our goal with this series is to preserve, celebrate and share the culture of off-roading. The Legends Rally format is designed to introduce new people to our culture in a fun, exciting and approachable way. UTVs offer the perfect platform to explore Baja and our group will provide a fun, safe environment to experience something special with friends, family and colleagues,” stated Mad Media CEO, Matt Martelli.

The Legends Rally launches its inaugural event September 23rd-25th at Horsepower Ranch, and will be led by off-road legend Larry Ragland. Michelin Star Chef Drew Deckman, who is internationally known for his “slow food” philosophy and using locally sourced produce and meat, will create the menu prepared by associate chef, Claudette Wilkins. Local winemaker Aldo Santini Jr., who is an expert on the local wine, beer, tequila, and mezcal in the region, will provide tastings to pair with Deckman’s dining experience.

“The beauty of Baja is really unparalleled in North America, and there’s no better way to experience it than in a UTV with friends and family,” stated Joey DiGiovanni, CEO and founder of UTVUnderground. “Once you get off the main roads you really get to see Baja’s majestic beaches, mountains, and forests, and of course the people and the food are spectacular!”

Participants of the three day adventure will travel in on Friday afternoon, ride all day Saturday and head home on Sunday, so even the busiest professional can fit this bite sized taste of Baja into their schedule. The event is designed for UTV owners to bring their own vehicles but a limited amount of fully prepared rentals are available from Horsepower Adventures with hassle-free trail support. Guides will meet participants at the American border to ensure a smooth, hassle-free crossing in to Mexico and escort to Horsepower Ranch.

“We are thrilled to partner with UTVUnderground for The Legends Rally!” stated Todd Clement, President and Co-Founder of Horsepower Adventures. “We’ve been missing an entry point for new people to come learn about the off-road culture in Baja for quite some time. We’re really looking forward to sharing the stunning beauty and food of Baja.”

Space is limited for this exclusive off-road adventure and culinary experience, so don’t wait – register now!

I think it's great there is another Baja tour avalible. Not sure what a Spirit Expert is as mention above on the Sept ride. But I do think at $1500 for a 2 day trip and only a 150 miles, which I assume is done in one day, is to pricy. I'm not sure that price point will survive?

I know of groups that have charge that much to go half way or even full runs down Baja, minus your fuel, food and lodging, which in Baja is not that much.

Maybe because doing play trips in Baja is not new for me, and I know what it cost me to do a 4 day trip, at 600 miles in a buggy or UTV, as I do them both. Maybe that is why I thought no the price is high? But I guess if people are willing to pay, then the price is right.

Matt has structured this ride to be more than the typical Baja ride. With that said, I prefer tacos, shit beds and fun riding with a small group. However, this trip is different and has a sense of quality in terms of accommodations, food and experience.

Matt is bringing in renown chefs to cook crazy good full course meals and "spirits" experts native to Baja to bring in and perform wine, tequila and mescal tastings.

This isn't for everyone and the hardcore Baja guys probably will never be into this trip because we know where we like to eat, we already do XX amount of trips every year and you're right, you won't pay for a trip like this.

Is it expensive? Depends how you look at it but it's not cheap. Is it too much? Time will tell. I personally think it's a lot of money for a weekend trip but I also know all that's going into these trips and when you add it up its a fair value.

I'll miss the first one as I am headed to Camp RZR East but I look forward in participating in future legends rally trips.

I know this is just a computer rendering, but that would be a bad ass UTV. Clearly a 4 seat Polaris/Yamaha hybrid. Then the duel rear shock, and ground clearance like I'm used to in a buggy. Just awesome!

Very cool concept, and would definitely help ease "the fear" of Baja/Mexico, too rich for my blood but that doesn't mean others wont enjoy it.

I know a couple in my dune group that would probably love it, same guy we make fun of for drinking wine by the fire even when he hides it in his red solo cup haha!

I am a street tacos and beer type guy.

One notion i had while reading it was how amazing of a fund raising auction gift something like this trip would be for somebody that might not be able to afford it, or a high end corporate type that wouldn't normally do something like this raising money for an off road charity or organization.

It's actually all RZR with custom everything (suspension, body, cage) made by Baja1. They drive insanely well. Like, so bitchin' I've been thinking how to afford some parts of the kit.
Along with having done Moto trips business full-time for 20+ years I also guided for Wide Open some in the buggies and recently I've guided for HP.Adventures and will be guiding again for them in a few weeks. Their RZRs are big fun!
Sure the Legends Rally is a bit of cash, but there are aspects of it that some will flock to. Some people love to be on "event" type rides with some known names. Looking forward to it!

Yeah, it crazy how beautiful and diveres Baja is. Keep in mind the cost covers food, hotel, full support, etc. This is the perfect trip to do with your wife or your buddies. Kids are welcome as well. It's going to be a blast! Plus there can only ever be one "First one".

Good idea! We plan on fund raising for the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame which Larry Ragland is being inducted to!

I hear you on the price. but when we factored in full media staff, medical staff, and full chase staff and support this isn't your wing it baja trip. The goal is to get all the newbies in and comfortable with Baja and teach them about the culture of off-road.

Help us spread the gospel of the off-road brotherhood!

Thanks

Matt

With all that said.....why not do a baja experience about baja...Taco Shops and Local Eats? Why "world class chefs"? I think it would be a fair price if the cars were provided....but bring your own car a 3K for you and your passenger to run 150 miles is about $1500 too much.

We could do one like that in the future. Maybe it's a "UTV Underground Members only" ride. Honestly once you factor in staff, safety, etc. The only thing that's cheaper is the the food.

This is about Baja and what's going in Baja right now with food.

Baja is currently going through a food renaissance led by Ensenda. Young and old chefs alike have realized that they can have their own identity rather than copying french or italian cuisine. Referred to as “Cachanilla” by their mainland Mexican cousins, Baja has its own sense of independence, even in its food culture. “Cachanilla” is a type of flowering bush that grows in harsh rocky desert areas usually near cactus. To the people of Baja, the flowers represent hope and strength in the face of adversity, a symbol of their relationship with mainland Mexico and the rest of the world.

Abundant with natural resources, Baja is unique geographic region providing a prosperous coastline for seafood, rich mountains perfect for growing grapes for wine and a variety of produce, and flat prairies perfect for raising free range livestock. The year round temperate weather means there is not an off-season for fantastic local food experiences.

Just slightly north of downtown Ensenada, Guadalupe Valley is exploding with wine and food culture. Accelerated by the growth of the local wineries bringing in tourism, Guadalupe Valley has some of the most exciting restaurants serving locally sourced food.
