We decided today we are going to race the NA 1992 Rustfish. It is just sitting here all raced prepped and ready for SCORE, why not run it. What could go wrong...? Hopefully we don't throw a shoe this race... Missed the draw, so into the dust we go. Looking forward to seeing everyone out there.

Not to change direction on this thread but... Parker has been getting a monumental amount of rain the past 48 hrs and if it keeps up this will be awesome course conditions and no dust!

What did GMZ do that's the same? I thought this was the BITD Parker 250 mile race, unlike the UTVWC which is a two day short, multi lap race.
The UTVWC was not a 2 day race. it was 160-170 miles in one day. My memory is terrible but i do remember that one!

in Supercross as an example, i don't believe the top guys from the previous season have to qualify in the season opener. I know we are not racing supercross, but without any sort of qualifying we are at the mercy of the draw out of a hat no matter how fast you are, or start from previous results. Some poeple want a fresh draw and they didnt even race the whole season last year.

I got a call to vote on the starting order for this race, and was given only 2 options. 1) start this race in the last races finishing order for top 10, or 2) the entire field draws out of a hat.

I suggested some other options but was told to choose between the 2 given options. With the chance of drawing last if i picked option 2, I didn't feel like there was any other option except to pick option 1).

The BITD office said the start of this race is 15 cars per row and therefore the draw positions weren't that important......is that true? And if so....how does that work, exactly?

Maybe for the short course morning race but hopefully not for the desert race.

I'm trying to visualize that....so it's like a landrush start with 15 cars.....wait a bit....then another landrush start with 15 cars....etc? Similar to WORCS race starts?

but, the vast majority of guys dont want to beat their machine to death the day before a points race and have the unfortunate possibility of wrecking out or breaking an unrepairable part the day before a race. i have many customers that arent scared in the least and will go the day before the biggest race of the year and put 100 miles on their machine shaking it down full throttle in the desert, and some who are the opposite and wont even crank it untill they unload it from the trailer for contingency for fear of fouling plugs or having anything else go wrong. some teams carry a spare car and a full chase truck of parts. but some are just out there hanging by a thread and would be more scared to do a qualifying run because you absolutely have to be full throttle and hang it all out there or you are going to get a dead last place start. but with full throttle qualifying you run a much greater risk of dismembering the car.

i think from a spectator standpoint qualifying it awesome and amazing. from a racer standpoint most think it would be fun but would still be skeptical of blasting their machine to death the day before a race and would lean more heavily towards a straw draw for starting position.

Qualifying is not for everyone, But I suspect the fast guys would all they could to have that #1 spot.

We need qualifying in a class this big with this much on the line. We are not just a handful of guys out there racing for bragging rights anymore. There are a lot of teams that put in an extraordinary amount of effort and have the factory backing to prove it that would be more than willing to qualify if given the chance. I understand that not everyone can or wants to qualify.
The good thing about qualifying is you don't have to do it. If you don't want to qualify or take the chance of hurting your car than you can sit it out and go in the drawing. So there would be no harm at all because right now those same guys are in the drawing.
