It is my guess that Cory considered craftsmanship and reputation when deciding to allow both Johnny and ourselves the chance to race. Johnny's car, like himself is a class act, and Marc has been racing in SCORE and BITD races for the better part of 25 years.

It's not like we drug our feet here, and strolled in late like rockstars to the season opener in Parker. We received a bare space frame from Thad at Fabwerx approximately 2 weeks prior to this event, and Thad was gracious enough to allow me into his shop from the beginning to help with the build. The suspension components from Long Travel arrived in house only 3 days before race day. The wiring wasn't started until Tuesday on race week. We worked tirelessly and diligently to make it to the race when we did. Marc drove an amazing 8,000 miles in the 2 weeks leading up to the race to keep me fed with parts and materials to complete the car. I was actually wrenching on the car in the enclosed trailer as Marc was driving (more like flying. The ride in the rear of a 45 foot enclosed trailer while traveling at speeds of up to 100 miles an hour is not smooth. Especially when making final suspension adjustments, mounting tracker devices, cutting and fitting skid plates on the fly..literally. Once unloaded, I still had to do a final front toe alignment, tighten brake lines, tap 2 holes for the skids, tighten the steering shaft, and address a few more items before sending Marc out.) For the record, there was a BITD official doing a visual inspection the moment the car rolled off of the trailer.

We didn't receive a contract from Polaris until early December, so this whole project had to be completed from scratch in just 30 short days in order to fulfill our obligation per the contract we signed. Cory allowing us to start the race under the circumstances he did was just amazing, and we are extremely grateful for his support. In doing so, we were able to begin our contractual obligations in good faith. Cory and Marc were in contact far before race day regarding safety and technical requirements, so Cory was familiar with our efforts.

I'm quite confident that anyone in disagreement with the accommodations made to us by Cory would have happily received them if they were in our shoes. Hey, look at the bright side, at least we didn't win the race! Congratulations Featherweight, ahem, I mean Moneybags on winning round one:rolleyes:. I was happy to see you and your handful of cash at the end.
what sucks is, "would score allow you to race with out a score tag". But what sucks is a score tag vehicle can't pass BITD rules.

Having done my fair share of winning and loosing (occasionally) I have a great idea.

#1. If you are not registered to race, shut up.

#2. If you are registered to race and have a concern, it can ONLY be voiced to the proper BITD official that HAS the ability to make a decision OR the team in question.

#3. If someone does not follow rules 1 and 2, all the other racers get to tech their car at the next race.

It is amazing how many folks have never raced but have a problem with those that do. It is equally amazing how many people voice their concern on the forum before mentioning it to the team or BITD. Joey's info is great, but he is not complaining or competing so he has no fish to fry. Just good info. If someone takes issue, they should deal with it according to rules 1-3.

Now since I did not race this race, I will shut up.
You do have to consider that sponsors give money so those non racers see there name and parts, then go out and purchase. Without spectators racing would be completely different and sponsors would not show much interest. When you say they should "Shut up" you saying that to your sponsors customers. Just saying...

Seems to me you would check winners after race for oversized bore not before.
I would think with the transponders we run they would have a list up pretty quick of the finishing order, to check a motor a day ahead of time was a lil different, I would bet money the Cognito's Jagged's and other teams with support would NOT risk cheating with an oversized motor, the black eye they would get would probably not go over well with people they answer too.

FYI The decision to allow the 1905 UTV to race was made by Casey Folks the race director, it had nothing to do with the UTV builder, the team or the driver. There were several UTV's that had some of the roll cage bracing tubes that were not the correct wall thickness. They were all given a warning and told the tubes needed to be replaced before the next race. This is standard practice at BITD and has been in place for 9 years.

Did you have a chance to inspect 1905 after the race being it sat there at the finish line for quite awhile?

in fairness to Cory at Henderson he told us we needed to put in a support by the roof and said it has to be done by Parker, so he gave us a race to get it done.

we were one of the rzr's that went thru and had some lacing and door bars that were incorrect. it was without a doubt not on purpose to cheat since it was maybe 5lbs at most. and to be honest it was simply because I didn't read the rules! this was the 3rd race the same rzr was thru tech. Cory marked a couple spots and they will 100% be fixed by the Mint. in fact we will photo and post the repair. We did get a pass to race and have fixed by next race which I was thankful for since we come from East Tennessee. But I would have understood if we broke the rules and werent allowed because rules are rules.
im not sure how i feel about someone showing up not having to do tech and racer meeting, that would help us coming from so far away that would be 1 more day we got to work at our jobs.
i just hope this class doesn't turn into something like Supercross where factory teams are all that can win and private teams have barely a chance at making the main event!
With that being said, I am 1st to admit what we failed at and am 100% honest about it. Our tube cut out and repair will be documented online.
Who else will be?

This class is not like that. Cognito, JX, Holz, Burnett, etc do get 'support' but the cars are built in 'their' shops, just like your car is built in 'your' shop. Same goes for the Murray's and Corry with the BRP stuff. They are not built at the 'factory' and I laugh when people say we have titanium parts, or trick this and thats.

It is amazing how many stock parts we use, when other people think we have other stuff. If a stock part sucks, then we will look at an alternative. But like our motor mount issue we had at the 1000, we decided to stay with a fresh stock part instead of a chromoly part. Why? Because if a new trick motor mount doesn't fail, what fails next? We know, and it is not a field repair, like we did at the mil.

I have said it again and again, build a solid car, test the chit out of it, prep it well, spend more time on 'you' (your driving skills and ability to go fast and not break chit) and you can win as a privateer in a two year old XP 900. Or you can show up with a super trick hot rod with zero testing with a 'fuel controller' or a high zoot motor and...suck.

those Factory teams are quite different than these, when Josh Hayes CBR 600 had a Billit Titanium crankshaft I knew there was no way to compete, this isn't a HP race its a lot to just finish, at Parker we but a hole in our Method Forged wheel you could put your head in, I never seen stuff get so badly Destroyed

You are telling me there is not a difference when a Factory team is handed a $20K car by their supporting factory sponsor, and a privateer team is coming out of pocket for that?

I don't think I said that.
In 2011 I was a privateer that spent my kids college tuition on racing, but in the end it worked out ok for all parties.
You can bitch about not getting support; or try and get results and get support. The OEM's (BRP and PII) do a great job of supporting Pro UTV racing, but there is a lot of sponsorships from people that make exhausts, wheels, build motors, build suspensions, shocks, seats, do paint/graphics, safety equipment, lights, axles, tires, communications, complete builds, clutches, drive belts, etc. And more importantly we need to get Powersports DEALERSHIPS involved to support UTV racing. They have the most to gain by being associated with the fastest growing segment of powersports. Kudos to Bert's for being a pioneer here. I was 'challenged' by a top competitor at the SCORE awards who wanted to know about our team. When I told him that it was only two guys, building, prepping, chasing and fixing two cars for six races in BITD (2 people x 6 races) and one car for five races in SCORE (one race almost equaled the total mileage of all of the BITD races), he was blown away. He thought it was a 'factory' deal with hordes of people. Not true, only two guys. The 'hordes' of people that do show up to the races are volunteers and are drawn to the fun and antics of the team. Viva UTV racing, it is fun. Let's not make it all political with everyone butt hurt over some stupid crap after a race. Let's continue to pull together and grow UTV racing.
