Here's an email a colleague of mine on the Mars Science Lander Project (MSL) sent out today. I wrote back and told him some clean chones and a bottle of Jack were also in order. Told him to also buy a lottery ticket.

Unfortunately, as the Ace on schedule for today's track, I was unable to get into work this morning. While in route from home at approx 3:20 AM on the 210 Fwy, a trailer truck lost control and suddenly crossed all lanes in front of me. Due to the rain slicked roads and immediate proximity of the truck, the best choice I felt I had was to attempt to drive under the truck trailer, in between the wheels, ducked as low as I could. Fortunately, the truck was lightly loaded and riding high and my Honda S2000 (convertible) almost completely cleared the undercarriage, but not quite. The windshield has heavily damaged and the top torn off. Remarkably, the only injury I sustained as a tiny cut to the knuckle of my left thumb. The driver of the truck was much luckier and had some minor cuts and bruising.

I had to remain at the scene of the accident, but I called the Ops Chief (after calling 911) and advised him that he might try contacting another MSL Ace. He did but was unable to.

I am home now. I will need to take the rest of the day off to see about getting my car repairs started, getting a rental car, and stopping by my primary health care provided for a check up. I know I am not thinking clearly right now and will also use the rest of the day to calm down."

WTF a scientist that does not drive a ghey Prius? haha

glad he is ok, he made a split second decision MOST people could not have and would have locked up the brakes and skid who knows where.
