I was curious what all you desert guys are using for a belt temp gauge. Also where are you taking the belt temp at? I recently purchased a used UTV that I will be using for prerunning in Baja and playing in the desert in Az and would like to be able to keep an eye on belt temps.
Thanks in advance
Hans

Alba makes one for around $150 or STM makes one. I personally run a gauge off of amazon for $18.

Where is installed mine was in the secondary clutch Air exhaust. I loosened the hoseclamp and then pushed the probe into the airstream and then tightened the hoseclamp up. It's not an exact measurement of the clutch temperature but it lets you know when you're being stupid and to back off of it

Hey Hans.
We use the Alba kit (good guy price is around 100 bucks). It is 100% complete and ready to install. I placed the sending unit/probe as close to the primary clutch as possible (since our primary seems to be generating more heat than the secondary), in the exhaust duct (top left of center pic). I also added a catch screen in the exhaust outlet flange on the cvt cover so when a belt lets go, the resulting shrapnel does not pass i9nto the duct and damage the probe, nor clog the exhaust duct.

I use an Intercooler temp gauge. It tells you "In" temp and "Out" temp. Pretty cheap, found it on E-bay with both sending units.
What sort of numbers are you seeing on the in temp side vs the out temp side?

Hi Hans. If you are interested in running our belt temp gauge give me a call and I will take care of you. I think you would be surprised at how many cars are currently running our setup in desert racing...

Thanks Nate, I will be getting a hold of you.

Do you or any others care to chime in on what is an acceptable belt temp and what isn't?

We finished V2R with the same belt and never got over 150F. I think the normal range is 190F? The belt looks just broken in actually. We're going to use the same belt at Baja 1000 and see if we can finish with the same belt. That would be 1,650 race miles on a belt.
