... I gave Jake Carver who is racing the bottom section with us another 40 miles because it was all blacktop lol its nice to be the boss ...

Lol I love pavement! Last time I was on a paved stretch cognito's poor NA car with the disadvantage blew past me like I was sitting still.

60 mph speed zone pavement Jake lol I hope nobodys blowing you during this section ... its going to be pretty boring you might want to take up smoking or take a samwich with you .. this far into the race we will be lonely out front of the pack seems as Parks has forgotten who was leading the baja 500 when they broke ...

Shit if people remember who lead races, we'd be in the hall of fame.

For those that have never raced in Baja, take this to heart: speed zones suck. I mean they really SUCK! It is virtually impossible with a Ute with a CVT to try and keep her close to 60 mph. A quick dip or sudden gust of wind and BOOM you are above 60. Any the SCORE system tracks you ten times per second, so there is no 'oops' and back her down, it is just a penalty. You really need to study the course notes and drivers brief to know where the speed zones are.

VCP's can also be tricky. At the 1000 there was a VCP on the beach on the Pacific side that was virtually under water during high tide. I think most people got dinged for this one.

I won't be going down this year for the first time in eleven years. So who what to play the Weatherman Drinking Game with me?

My 2 pesos!

you guys dont just flip a switch like in the TT and UTVinc RZRs that limit your speed Matt ? one for 58 and one for 35 MPH ?

I think you inherited the lead from us when Sam and I pulled over to teach the local Mexicans how to do routine belt maintenance and rotate the tires as I remember you passing me while we were outside the car giving a clinic. I did get the lead back from you though after you decided to change our tranny oil in the middle of the desert.

There is no 'you guys' any more. It is simply those guys now. I have not heard of any reliable and accurate system to keep a Ute at a predetermined speed. If you know of one let me know or better yet tell me how it works.

Sorry Johnny, but 'mano a mano' you are not even in the same league as Wayne. He has a stupid amount of racing experience on quads and motorcycles. He was factory Honda with quads and has some crazy number of SCORE and district championships. Think of it this way, he has only been racing his own car for less than a year and has the same number of wins as you. You obviously can out spend he and the rest of the class but there is no way you can out drive him. Sorry if the truth stings a bit.

A little recon from a Jeep trip 2 weekends ago where we happened on the course by accident a few days after it was ribboned:

Santo Tomas to Erendira fast as always, a few burned in corner cuts but they are silted out/torn up and main line should be faster. Erendira to Colonet Camalu area same, (we cut through town into wash from pit area on coast so missed a few miles there but the Pollo Enchiladas were worth it!) fast but rain has caused some G outs/ruts so be on your toes... they creep up on ya but the edges should be knocked down by all the prerunning. Per the locals it rained pretty good days before. We also skipped the part where it ran through the farm fields... FYI, lots of cattle grazing so be smart!

We also did Mikes to El Coyote to San Telmo and it rained a bunch there the week prior. Lots of mud, rain ruts and washes were torn up pretty good and per the locals it hit south to El Rosario as well and an ex-pat said that section had a lot of flooding for what it's worth. We also heard the same for the southern San Felipe side @ Coco's but no conformation.

FYI the southern military check point near Colonet was very focused and went through everything in almost every car and it took a while and we were in light traffic. Make sure your stuff is in order, they seem unusally vigilant there...

Be safe, Viva Baja!

I did not inherit anything the first time. Sam and I were enjoying a drink in a nice smooth sand wash. We watched you beating your car like a rented mule in the whoops as we passed by.
I'd like to say I waxed your ass at the 500 but you pulled your pants down as I passed you and it looked like someone beat me to it.
