Assault Industries high clearance radius rods:

http://assaultind.com/collections/x...1000-high-clearance-radius-rods-bomber-series

Since I am planning to use this in the rocks and yet wanted something strong my choice for radius rods seemed obvious. Assault Industries has to be one of my favorite companies to deal with in the UTV world so far. They build an awesome product and have great customer service. I have used these radius rods on my previous machine and I have 2 friends that run them and they have performed flawlessly.

Cognito Motorsports radius rod cage:

http://www.cognitomotorsports.com/radius-rod-cage-xp1k-factory-replacement.html

While I was doing the radius rods I went ahead and upgrade the radius rod cage. The Cognito cage not only looks awesome but seems incredibly stout as well. I really like the double shear design that fully encases the radius rods for that added strength factor. Unfortunately it seems Assault uses wider misalignment bushings so I had to cut the cage apart and widen it. Since I had to weld on it I had it re-powder coated white to accent the machine more.

I also reamed out the misalignment bushings on the radius rods and also on the hubs to accept 7/16" bolts. I also switched the direction of the bolts through the hubs so the rod end was riding on the shank of the bolt. I have seen the bolt shear on the rear bolts where the threaded portion meets the shank because it is right at the seam of the hub meets the threaded union when placed in the factory direction.

CEM / CAGEWRX box front A-arms and 4130 spindles:

http://www.cagewrx.com/CageWrx-RZR-XP-1000-front-spindles-p/cem-33893.htm

For the front suspension I chose CEM/CageWRX boxed front arms and spindles. I liked these because they seemed very well designed and look awesome to boot! I liked the reinforced shock mounts and the 7/8" uni-ball over others 3/4". The knuckles have a double shear steering mount and would seem bulletproof as well!

Unfortunately there are some issues with the powder coat so they will not get installed yet and will be going back Monday for re-coating.

UTV Inc. race front sway bar kit:

http://utvinc.com/utv-inc-polaris-rzr-xp-1000-front-race-sway-bar-kit/

The absolute best upgrade I did to my old machine was put a front sway bar on. I built my own bumper and integrated the UTV Inc front sway bar into it. The kit is designed to tie into the lower arms but I machined shorter links and made mine go to the top arms. Not really sure if there is a difference in performance there but the machine is night and day different than stock. Cornering speeds are significantly faster.

I also installed the Baja Designs Squadron Pro XL lights up front. I wanted the best light I can find and these deliver. I am seriously impressed with the power of these lights.

GBC Kanati Mongrel 32x10x14 & Hiper 14x8 Sidewinder 2 wheels:

http://www.kanatitires.com/products/utv-tires/mongrel/

https://hiper-technology.com/product/sidewinder-14-center-cut-2/

So with the recent introduction of the 32" tires I really wanted to play around with that size on this build. I have previously run the Kanati Mongrel tire and have always been super impressed with them. I have never to date had any punctures or flats with them and performance wise they suit my driving style very well. My biggest hesitation with going to the 32's was the weight. The claimed weight of the 32x10x14 Mongrel tire is 40 lbs/each and I was pleasantly surprised to find them at 38 lbs/each.

Claimed weight for the Hiper wheels was 12.8 lbs/wheel (7" wide) but unfortunately that is without the bead-lock rings so they actually came in at 15.5 lbs each. Still pretty light but a bit disappointing none the less.

Still overall happy with the results. Complete wheel/tire came in at 53.8 lbs/each which I feel is pretty dang good for 32's!

HMF Racing Performance dual exhaust:

https://www.hmfracing.com/manufacturers/polaris/rzr-xp-1000/customize

As you can tell from my above conversation with HMF I decided on their system for this build. I saw their "survival build" on here and thought the "blackout" series would be perfect for this car. HMF recommends using a fuel controller with their exhaust so I opted to go with the Dobeck AFR+ fuel controller along with this system. I will say the one disappointing thing I had with this exhaust is I thought that everything was blacked out. However the cans came a gunmetal grey instead of black. It still looks very good but the grey does not flow with my car so I will have the cans coated white.

I was very impressed with this system. I have previously used a Muzzy Exhaust and this system is much more simple, easier to install, and has a bit deeper tone which I like.

Acceleration tests:

HMF claims up to 4 HP gains with their system. I am always skeptical with claims like these so I decided to perform my own test.

(I would like to add that I have put about 150 miles on my machine at this point so this is not done with a brand new engine)

I have also done Alba Racing's ECU re-flash for both tests.

I performed some acceleration test both in the stock configuration and with the HMF system. Basically I did (5) 1/4 mile runs one night with the stock setup and (5) 1/4 mile runs the following night with the HMF/AFR+ fuel controller. All runs were done with the engine up to temperature. Density altitude was within 100 feet when the test was done.

Vehicle weight full of fuel and with me in it is 1761 lbs. For the test I assumed a drive train loss of 25%.

I was pretty excited with the results. I thought the gains were significant. I also feel I can extract some better times with some clutch and fuel controller tuning. It would appear that there is good gains in torque as I cut 1 second off the 60-foot times! The rest of the gains were nominal.

***NOTE: HP numbers are not actual but are a calculated reference number based on vehicle weight, drive train efficiency, and acceleration.***

Shown results are the averages of the (5) runs. Left is stock, right is with the HMF Exhaust/AFR+.

So at this point you have realized that my car is up and driving. My roll cage, doors, and roof have all been painted/coated. Of course these cars are never really "done" so I am still doing upgrades/modifications as I go.

I was wondering if you could answer and or expand on these questions ...

Now that the car is running any updates/info on your clutch choice?

What back spacing are the wheels?

With the 32s is there any rubbing of any kind?

Who makes the hood or did you fab them up as well?

Specs on the other car?

This is one incredible build, thanks for sharing the very detailed information on it !! Thanks in advance for any and all information !!!

I actually recently switched from the Dalton clutch to a Heel Clicker setup. I feel the heel clicker hits much harder off the bottom but I still want to do much more testing/tuning before I make my final choice.

Wheels are a (4+4) back spacing.

The 32" tires do rub ever so slightly when turning under compression.

The hood is a Maier stealth hood.

The car on the trailer is a friends machine. His build can be found here: http://www.utvunderground.com/forum...te-rackzilla-assault-tie-rods-gear-one.18151/

The other black car in the shop is another project I am working on.

ABF Fabrication steering quickener:

https://abffabrication.com/shop/polaris-rzr-xp-1000-steering-quickener-kit-wdisconnect/

I used to race shifter karts which have a 1/2 turn lock to lock steering. When I first started driving my XP 1000 aggressively I noticed the steering seemed very slow. (2 turns lock to lock!) I always felt that I was trying to "catch up" with it. I put this steering quickener on my last build and I LOVE it! I went with the 1.5:1 with mine and I am glad I did. I was told that you can not feel much of a difference in turning difficulty with the 1:5 over stock but I would disagree. There is a bit more resistance for sure. It does not bother me even for all day rides or crawling but I can definitely see where some would not like it. If you do not drive aggressively than this is probably not the modification for you. The quickener is very well made and the install was not that bad. This comes with a quick release for the steering wheel so I coupled it with a Sparco R333 steering wheel.

I was reading this tread again and had another question ... Are you running the steering quickner and power steering? Sorry that may sound like a dumb question but I didnt see were you mention it either way.

Yes, the power steering is still utilized. The wheel is a bit harder to turn but the PS still helps out.
