Okay, now that I've introduced myself, let's see what kinds of fun things AEM makes that you can use on your UTV.

As you may have seen, we have a new plug and play kit to install our CD-7 color dash display into a Polaris RZR.


The CD-7 is an extremely capable and flexible color dash display that can use AEM's pre-made layout files or you can design your own. The dash is IP66 rated meaning it's designed to resist dirt/dust incursion and direct water spray making it great for an offroad environment. The plug and play adapter harness plugs into the diagnostic port under the hood and the whole setup can replace your stock dash. The CD-7 relies on CANbus data and has two CAN ports - I'll cover more info on how CAN works and it's capabilities later.

We also offer plug and play stand alone engine management solutions for a few different Polaris RZR applications.


These plug and play ECU's are based on our Infinity platform with is our latest EMS offering. The Infinity offers high end motorsports capabilities at an affordable price and has a ton of features and functions to suit everyone from recreational users to hardcore racers. The Infinity plug and play kit integrates seamlessly onto the RZR and supports all OEM functions (AWD engagement, factory dash display functions like shifter position and fuel level, etc). It's really amazing what you can do with the RZR once you get the stock ECU out and replace it with an Infinity.

The CD-7 kit for RZR's works with either the OEM ECU (stock or reflashed/tuned) or the Infinity. You can get more info on the CD-7 kit HERE.

To the best of our knowledge, the CAN datastream is nearly the same for all the RZR models so the CD-7 app should work on your 2013 900 and older RZR models as well. If your car is ever in the LA/OC area, we'd be happy to test the setup on your car to ensure that everything works 100%. Would give you a discount in return. Let me know what you think.

Hey Joey! Glad to be here! I think you're going to love the CD-7. It looks good and is super functional. So much you can do with it. Looking forward to seeing yours all setup and doing its thing!

Well some bad news on the XP900 front. Turns out that the fuel level sensor is connected directly to the stock dash. On the 1000 and XPT cars, the fuel level sensor is connected to the ECU and fuel level is sent out over CAN to the dash which means it can also be received and displayed by the CD-7. Because the 900 has a direct connection between the dash and the level sensor, there is no fuel level channel on the CANbus.

We came up with a work around for those using our Infinity but using a CD-7 with a stock ECU will mean not having fuel level displayed. You could technically still keep your stock dash in place simply to display fuel level and then use the CD-7 for everything else.

Because the Infinity plug and play does completely replace the stock ECU, any and all OEM limiters and limp modes are eliminated. This is why a lot of off road racers have gone to the Infinity otherwise they're stuck dealing with annoying limp modes that the stock ECU goes into.

Now, there are still safety features built into the Infinity. The most predominant is the Drive By Wire (DBW) throttle failsafe. Obviously it's imperative that the vehicle operator always have positive control of the DBW throttle in order to maintain vehicle control. If for some reason, the throttle goes off track for an extended period of time or if one of the redundant position sensors goes into error, the Infinity will trigger a rev limiter. This is a feature that any EMS that does DBW throttle control will have. The DBW failsafe is cleared by simply power cycling the ECU.

There are other engine protection features in the Infinity as well. You can think of these as being types of "limp" protectors BUT they're 100% end user adjustable. This allows you to either be conservative and stop things early say if your coolant temps get out of hand or you can completely turn them off if burning down your motor is acceptable so long as you get across the finish line. Here are the engine protection features in the Infinity:
  • Lean Out Protection - triggers a rev limiter if AFR goes too lean. References manifold pressure and has min throttle and RPM criteria.
  • Coolant & Oil Temp Protection - trigger a rev limiter if either temp goes too high.
  • Oil Pressure Protection - triggers a rev limiter if oil pressure goes too low. Reference RPM.
  • Overboost Protection - cuts fuel and ignition if overboost occurs. Resets once throttle is lifted.
Again, all these safety features are 100% end user adjustable. You can set them up however you want or completely turn them off. And lastly, there are NO speed limiters in the Infinity at all.

What tune comes in it and how does a customer tune it?

Since the Infinity app for the RZR is a full plug and play, it comes with a base cal or "tune" that already starts and runs the engine and essentially runs and drives like stock. On the dyno, we always make base cals match stock HP. The Infinity is never "locked" and is always fully open and allows anyone to tune it. If you download our free Infinity Tuner tuning software, you can communicate with the Infinity and do any tuning you want. The thing to keep in mind is that this is a full stand alone ECU that allows you to tune every single imaginable operating parameter that controls the engine. You can make it run very good as easily as you can make it run very bad if you're not experienced with tuning. If you're not comfortable with the responsibility that comes with this level of tuning "freedom", then I definitely recommend that you refer to an experienced tuner.

BTW, case in point about the RZR base cal being pretty good right out of the box, Rhys Millen raced in and won the Baja 1000 last year running the Infinity RZR base cal with NO CHANGES.

And speaking of RMR, they're also using the CD-7.


Rhys mentions monitoring belt temps. This is something you can do with the Infinity by adding in a temp sensor which then displays over CAN to the CD-7. You can setup warnings and alarms based on any input being received over CAN.

I assume since its a stand alone and personally tunable you can view all data as well?

Joey, after spending some time looking at the Ride Command dash, I don't really think the CD-7 would easily replace it. They're both 7" displays but the RC dash looks very integrated into the dash cover itself - like the screen is behind the dash cover and the dash houses the whole assembly and has the buttons below the screen and what not. The CD-7 is pretty big - I think you'd have significantly alter the RC dash setup in order to put a CD-7 in its place.

Nate, someone asked me if this unit would work in place of the Polaris Ride Command as in would it cleanly mount in that location of the factory dash?
Yes, you can view and log all data.

I assume since its a stand alone and personally tunable you can view all data as well?

You can get any AEM Electronics parts from any AEM dealer/distributor. Are you looking to walk into a specific brick and mortar store and pick one up locally? Or purchasing online and having it shipped? If you're doing web shopping, you can get products from places like Summit Racing, Amazon, 4 Wheel Parts and a many, many other places. You can get a CD-7 from where ever you bought your Infinity. You can even order a CD-7 directly from the AEM website.

Have you contacted AEM Tech Support for help with your DBW? The DBW failsafe is triggered by a few very specific criteria. A data log the captures the problem occurring will certainly show what's triggering the failsafe and allow you to address the problem directly. You can contact Tech Support by phone or email (1-800-423-0046 [email protected]) or post on the AEM forum or even send a log directly to me. Once we have some data we'll know exactly what's going on.
